THE FIRE RECRUIT: While assigned to the Fire Recruit Academy and in a training capacity, the Fire Recruit receives instructions to develop the knowledge, skills, physical agility, and strength to qualify and test for certifications and licenses required to promote to the position of Firefighter. To be considered for this positi on, applicants must pass a written exam, firefighter physical agility test and interview, the NFPA 1582 medical evaluation and fitness assessment, full drug screen, criminal and motor vehicle background check. Please review the full job description on the linked page for specific requirements and disqualification criteria prior to applying for this position. NOTE: During the Fire Recruit Academy, the Fire Recruit will typically work Monday through Thursday 12 hours each day but some additional days and hours are required throughout the Academy to meet mandatory training requirements. Salary during the Recruit Academy is $35,216.90 ($16.93 hour) . After successful completion of the twenty-week Fire Recruit Academy and promotion to Firefighter, the salary will increase to $39,442.73. In six months, Firefighters will be eligible for promotion to Advanced Firefighter after completion of all job performance requirements and certifications, the salary will increase to $43,090.01. In six more months (1 year from graduation), the Advanced Firefighter will be eligible for promotion to Apparatus Operator 1 after completion of all job performance requirements and certifications, the salary will increase to $47,649.11. If you need additional resources services send a request to the Human Resources via email (XXXX@chathames.org) no later than 7 business days prior to the testing date. During this time, we will provide a written English comprehension examination that test your ability to read and understand English.
