Mission Fork Union Military Academy's Mission is to educate, develop, and inspire young men in a college preparatory, Christian, military-structured environment. Cadets build character and learn leadership, independence, responsibility, and discipline in a setting that encourages mental, physical, and spiritual growth. Description TAC Instructors shall be willing to adhere to, enforce, encourage, and instruct all Cadets per the Academy's mission and core values. TAC Instructors are the heart of our Leadership program and foster personal development with daily interaction and the ability to Teach, Advise, and Coach (TAC) our Cadets. Ensuring Cadet development within a safe and secure environment by instructing, counseling, evaluating, and reporting Cadet performance; ensuring operational and procedural uniformity within the barracks and around campus. General responsibilities are to instruct with an emphasis on Leadership while also teaching, advising, coaching, mentoring, and inspecting, Cadets within their company. TACs, as well as other staff and faculty members, serve "in loco parentis" (in place of the parent) for boarding and day students in seventh through twelfth grades, including the post-graduate program. Essential Job Functions Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee all cadets as they progress through their day Work in conjunction with academic faculty as deemed necessary to support cadet educational goals Enforce the standards for personal wellness, and a hygienic environment in the living quarters Teach, Advise, and Coach (TAC) students daily in academic, spiritual, athletic, and personal goals Maintain general oversite and safety of all cadets of the Academy Report cadet progress via verbal and written reports to Company TACs at every shift change Verify cadet accountability daily as deemed necessary or assigned by the Commandant Assist with any cadet departures during leave or major events that deem the exit of a cadet Duties/Responsibilities: Assist and reinforce the Academy mission and vision when setting appropriate cadet goals or providing counsel to cadets Assist and reinforce the departmental strategic plan as deemed appropriate by the Commandant or the needs of the Academy Assist in conducting regular meetings with Cadet Leadership to discuss student concerns, provide guidance, and solicit feedback on the cadet experience Encourage a positive environment for clear communication and consistent expectations and procedures Support and connect with all cadets; likewise support all enrolled cadets in a consistent manner as deemed appropriate by the needs of the Academy Assist Company TACs in daily supervision and observation requirements Report to Company TAC any items of interest or events that may need further documentation or communication Assess cadet performance based on standards established in departmental strategic planning sessions as deemed appropriate by the Company TAC, Commandant, or needs of the Academy. Encourage personal growth that includes mind, body, and spirit. Assist and oversee cadet progress in achieving goals to create a positive experience achieving person growth Document any issues related to cadet residential life. Pass on such documentation to the Company TAC for review and recommendation of an action plan. Including but not limited to: Discipline, incident reports, investigations, pass along briefings, roommate disputes, behavior or social trends, and positive achievements. As otherwise deemed necessary per the needs of the Academy Be a positive role model Actively respond and participate appropriately to crisis or emergent situations Participate as an active member of the Residential Life Team Perform any other assignments that fall within the reasonable scope of duties for this position per the needs of the Academy Required Skills/Abilities: Must have a working knowledge best practices for cadet development Strong interpersonal skills Be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite Strong organizational skills Strong written and verbal communication skills Detail oriented Problem solving abilities Ability to plan, organize, implement, and manage multiple priorities and projects Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations Ability to deescalate tense situations and resolve situations involving facilities, roommate disputes, or psychological concerns as deemed appropriate. Ability to adapt to real time situations, and honor chain of command in real time Capacity to work independently or as a team Understand the Academy's cadet culture and rank structure including roles and responsibilities Ability to obtain the following certifications: CPR/Concussion Certification and Child Abuse/Neglect Training Ability to complete the following requirements: Perform duties on day, evening, or night shifts as deemed necessary by the needs of the Academy Qualifications, Education and Experience: Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree preferred in a related field: Education, teaching, mentoring, supervisory leadership, social work, etc. Three or more years of experience in leadership, supervision, or a related field considered Knowledge of best practices relating to incident response and crisis management and/or legal regulatory and policy issues is encouraged Experience interacting with youth programs preferred Fork Union Military Academy is a veteran friendly, equal opportunity, employer Honorably discharged or retired veterans with service (Title 10) permission and within the height/weight and personal appearance standards are permitted to wear the appropriate service uniforms and maintain their rank in most cases Physical Requirements: Expected hours of work: 0600 to 1600 3 days per week with after hours or weekend work possible 2 days per week will be a flex shift as assigned Either 1330 to 2330 or 2230 to 0730 Due to the nature of this position, some flexibility in hours may be necessary, and weekend duties may be assigned as Academy needs arise. Summer School opportunities may be available in addition to the primary role Hours of work may be conditionally flexible during seasonal events, or as directed by the Academy's needs Ability to perform work outdoors; withstand inclement weather and other environmental conditions as deemed necessary by the needs of the Academy Ability to climb three flights of stairs and carry at least 35 pounds Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 35 pounds as needed Ability to sit, stand, or squat as needed. Must successfully pass a background check and drug testing Random drug screenings are performed at this location and are required to be participated in Prolonged periods of standing, sitting, kneeling, stooping, or working on a computer may be deemed necessary at any time
