JOB SUMMARY: The Lab Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and supporting the Lab and Radiology staff in their role(s) helping Spectra Health patients. This includes the responsibility for training both Lab and Radiology staff and ensuring the proper levels of coverage for each respective area. This position is a working supervisor who needs to be involved in the day-to-day operations sometimes covering shifts themselves as possible. They also need to work very closely with the clinical managers and all other staff on the Spectra Health management team. The Lab Coordinator reports directly to the Clinical Director. ORGANIZATIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Support the mission, vision and philosophy of Spectra Health as evidenced by compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.• Supports all functions that attain and maintain compliance with regulatory or funding agencies.• Supports and facilitates positive interaction with others as evidenced by: professional maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information and an appreciation of a variety of viewpoints and diversity in the workplace.• Exhibits effective communication skills, including proper use of agency communication systems.• Participates in appropriate professional development programs to attain and maintain role competency.• Supports the strategic plan of Spectra Health as evidenced by a working knowledge of the plan and participation in completing elements of the plan.• Support the business and clinical plans of Spectra Health as evidenced by a working knowledge of the plan and participation in completing elements of the plan. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: • Manage phlebotomy and radiology staff; including hiring, disciplinary issues, grievances, time off request and performance appraisals.• Organize employee work schedules to ensure appropriate coverage for each area (phlebotomy & radiology).• Supervise and coordinate new hire training of all lab staff.• Be able to perform all duties of a phlebotomist.• Order supplies and reagents from lab suppliers. Must keep laboratory inventory stocked sufficiently for daily operations.• Assist Clinical Director with department procedures, monthly counts and reports.• Review and update departmental policies and procedure manuals, as necessary.• Continually monitor current plans for quality assurance purposes.• Assist with point of care testing.• Conduct in-service training to keep lab personnel updated and current on departmental procedures.• Evaluate new procedures or equipment and document findings to Clinical Director. Will evaluate quality control for shifts, trends, out of range results and take appropriate action.• Will monitor laboratory equipment variations and take necessary actions to ensure equipment is functioning properly. Will troubleshoot problems with analyzers.• May discuss with providers or other departments, the proper collection and/or request of necessary lab testing.• Will orientate and train new phlebotomy staff to department and work with them until competency is attained. Will document all training periods and results of technical abilities on departmental section of orientation form to Clinical Director.• Will work with Biomed to assure that all equipment preventive maintenance and documentation are performed.• Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Director. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Required: • Three years of lab experience• Medical Labe Technology (MLT) certification• Knowledge of Medical Terminology• Proficient knowledge of Windows and Office applications• Proficient knowledge of the EPIC system• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service and strong cultural competency• Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines Preferred: • Five years of lab experience• A college degree in a related field• Experience working in a non-profit setting• Experience with program development PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Lab Coordinator works in a clinical environment that requires the employee to be on their feet for long periods of time.
