Over 35 years ago, the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) was founded to advance the simple but then-radical idea that cancer could be prevented. Today, we continue to fund research in the field of nutrition, physical activity, and cancer prevention, treatment and survival.Because cancer doesn't stop at national borders and restrict itself to industrialized countries, we must study the disease and teach people how to prevent it on a global scale. That's why AICR is a member of the World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF) International network. AICR works side-by-side with WCRF International and is united through a shared vision.Our Arlington, VA based office is looking for a Controller. The Controller provides leadership and direction to a team of 4 accounting professionals and is responsible for all financial aspects of the general ledger, revenue reporting, accounts payable, payroll, budgeting, tax reporting and annual audit. This is a key position in the department of International Financial Services which serves the WCRF International network of affiliates in London, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong.This position reports to the Vice President of Finance. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: * Prompt and accurate reporting of the financial condition of AICR and the affiliates by providing accurate monthly financial statements, weekly cash management reports, and other analysis as needed* Supervise all staff accountants and their work (journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and other reports, assessing the workloads of individual staff members and making changes when necessary* Compile information for corporate tax and informational returns to be filed with Federal, State, local and foreign governments* Manage the audit process, including timelines, reviewing PBCs, responding to samples requests and auditor questions* Review annual budgets prepared by AICR department heads and the affiliate country heads* Support the affiliate office teams by providing financial guidance and information* Work with the VP of Finance to implement new accounting standards and regulatory requirements for AICR and the overseas affiliates as needed* Keep abreast of proposed accounting, payroll and tax regulations that may affect financial reporting for all affiliates in network Requirements Undergraduate Degree in Accounting/Finance* Advanced degree and/or CPA, highly preferred* 5-7 years of non-profit accounting experience* Minimum of 5-7 years supervisory experience* Expert level Excel skills* Experience with Abila MIP fund accounting software, a plus Additional Information What can we offer you?
