Summer Academy Part-Time Instructor - Upward Bound $900-1100 per course Position Summary Provide specialized intensive instruction in core curricular academic areas necessary for secondary and post-secondary success of Upward Bound participants. Reports to the Coordinator. Job Duties and Responsibilities Instruct participants in relevant content area; submit curriculum content outline of material covered in each instructional session or lab; maintain attendance logs for submission to Coordinator; evaluate and document participant progress by utilizing pre- and post-tests or other evaluative measures for submission to Coordinator; serve as mentor to participants; serve on curriculum development team when requested; and, provide evaluation of participants, activities, and services to Upward Bound staff. Skills Considered Essential for Success -Knowledge of the organization and administration of higher education. -Knowledge of state, federal, and university rules, regulations and procedures. -Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment. -Ability to work collaboratively and independently with common goals as a part of a team. -Ability to make sound judgments and assist in resolving student concerns. -Effective interpersonal communication, writing, and organizational abilities. -Civility in all interactions of a public or confidential nature. -Demonstrate follow-up contacts and consultations in a timely manner. Required Education and/or Experience Bachelor’s degree in appropriate curriculum area required; Master’s preferred. Preference given for: Minimum 3 years’ prior successful teaching experience with high school or college students; prior successful experience working with low-income, first-generation youth and/or ethnically and racially diverse student populations; and, background similar to target population. [For an elective, non-core content area, some or all educational requirements may be substituted for relevant work and/or other related experience(s) in the field or subject area to be presented.] Background Check Requirements 00 - 01 - Criminal/Sex/Drug Background Check Statement This position may be subject to a pre-employment criminal, sex-offender registry, financial history background check and drug screening.
