Brooklyn Heights Montessori School (BHMS) offers a challenging and comprehensive curriculum built on the philosophy of Maria Montessori to children aged two years through eighth grade. Students work and learn in mixed-age classes led by teaching teams of thoughtful and well-trained professionals. The students have exposure to a full range of academic and artistic courses. BHMS also offers an after-school program and a summer day camp. The School is housed in a beautiful facility in the Cobble Hill section of Brooklyn and is ideally located for convenient access to all parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Job Description: Montessori Summer Music Teacher (Serving Ages 3-6 Years) Term Dates: July 1-August 9, one 4-hour day per week. Reports to: Camp Director Brief Description: The Summer Camp Music Teacher is a seasonal position that involves 4 hours of instructional and prep time, once per week, for six weeks. The Summer Camp Music Teacher would plan, prep for, and lead 3 30-minute morning classes for children aged 3-6 years old, and lead one 60-minute block for children aged 5-6 years old in the afternoon, with help from camp support staff. All summer staff members are expected to work in alignment with BHMS Mission and goals. The Summer Lead teacher will report to the Camp Director, and will participate in planning and prep as a team with the other participating summer teachers. Responsibilities: Plan, prep, and lead 4 classes per week (once per week: 3 morning classes for children aged 3-6 years old, and one longer afternoon class for children aged 5 and 6 years old). Be in attendance at school in accordance with the times set forth in the letter of agreement Where possible, participate in compensated planning meetings and prep days to set up and break down camp, bringing ideas and experiences to the team. Prepare lessons, activities, and experiences for play and learning that are aligned with Montessori practice and philosophy, and ideally which explore and expand on the summer camp themes, in collaboration with the other teachers and staff members. Respect and care for classroom spaces and any borrowed instruments and materials Establish and maintain a positive and professional relationship with children, parents, and other teachers and school personnel Comply with the established policies and procedures of Brooklyn Heights Montessori School as shared in the summer staff orientation meeting(s) Model as fully as possible the values in the Brooklyn Heights Montessori School Mission Statement, Diversity Statement, and Community Norms Perform various reasonable tasks from time to time as requested by the Camp Director and/or Assistant Director. Requirements: Experience leading musical experiences in preschool and/or summer camp settings required Professional training and/or degrees in music education or performance preferred Salary range is $30-70/hr, commensurate with experience and qualifications and aligned with the program’s financial landscape.
