POSTING DATE: April 30, 2024 NOTICE OF VACANCYSocial Worker (Early Childhood - GSRP Pre-K for All) SUMMARY: The Social Worker delivers a wide range of services to young preschool children, their families and preschoolteaching staff in diverse settings such as children’s homes, classrooms and community-based environments. TheSocial Worker coordinates services and community agency resources for children and their families. The SocialWorker promotes and enhances the overall academic mission by providing services that strengthen home,school, and community partnerships, and address barriers to learning and achievement. The Social Workerparticipates on Multidisciplinary Evaluation Teams (METs), and actively contributes to Individualized EducationPrograms (IEPs). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree from a graduate school of social work program approved by the Michigan Board of Education Currently licensed with the Michigan Department of Licensure and Regulatory Affairs Capable of developing individualized programs for students with unique social-emotional needs Experience with special education law Ability to independently problem-solve, schedule daily activities, model good communication, and communicate and work effectively with children, students, parents, childcare providers, and professional staff PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with preschool-age children Demonstrated success providing in-service training to staff and parents Experience with the Pyramid Model and MTSS framework for behavior and intervention needs Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff, and Early Childhood Specialists Demonstrated expertise in assisting educators in positive behavior supports and developing strategies/plans in the classroom to ensure student success ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide social work tier one and tier two services to preschool students in their natural environments or classroom settings Provide support in diverse settings such as children’s homes, daycare centers and/or community settings Schedule and manage responsibilities of position across multiple classrooms Advocate for providing services to preschool children in inclusive settings Develop individualized programs for students/families with unique educational needs Provide a problem-solving service to children and their families through individual, group and community social work methods, so as to enable those served to cope with problems adversely affecting the ability of children to make optimal use of the educational experience Educate family members and caregivers on different intervention strategies for children Proactively contribute information as an interdisciplinary team member within the context of METs and/or IEPs, including development, planning, and follow-up Serve as liaison between school, home, and the community in building and maintaining positive relationships Coordinate and develop resources within and outside the school system for use by children, their families and school personnel Collaborate with principals, teachers and other school personnel to improve use of existing school programs and procedures, as well as to plan and implement new programs and procedures related to the educational, social, and emotional needs of children Collect and manage data; create and maintain data collection documents Use data based decision making to lead a problem-solving model in dealing with student academic and behavioral concerns Foster professional development through in-service education of social work staff, including interns, paraprofessionals and volunteers, and through planning, conducting, and participating in workshops for these and other school personnel Consult and cooperate with school psychologists, guidance counselors, nurses, principals, directors, Early Childhood Specialists, and classroom teachers in assessing the mental and emotional health of the individual student having school difficulty and in evolving appropriate remedial plans Assist districts and Community Based Organization (CBO) partners in the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) within a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework Adapt and function independently within several classrooms Complete all required reporting and documentation related to the position within specified timelines Model continuous learning and use best practices in educational improvement Perform other duties as assigned SPECIAL CONDITIONS: Must exercise confidentiality and sound judgment in dealing with LEAs, CBOs, staff, students, and parents Must demonstrate excellent oral/written communication skills Proficiency in computer/software use including Google Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom Must effectively orchestrate multiple activities/projects simultaneously to accomplish goals and us resources effectively Must be organized, self-motivated and enthusiastic Must successfully adapt/function independently within a variety of school districts Position routinely requires travel to preschool programs in Marquette and Alger counties. Occasional travel to other areas of the Upper Peninsula or the State may be required TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time position.
