Location:This position is in INDOTs LaPorte District, Technical Services Division. Role Overview: The Assistant Traffic Engineers primary responsibility is to represent traffic safety interests as capital projects are planned, developed, and constructed. Incumbent will assist in providing a safe and efficient transportation system for the motoring public. This is accomplished through investigating to determine the correct traffic control devices at various locations in response to public requests, reviewing construction plans and special provisions for traffic control items, and gathering information and documents in response to requests for public information and questionnaires/interrogatories for tort claims. A Day in the Life: The essential elements of the job duties: :Planning and Project Management: Serve as a resource for proposal development and research process. Ensure milestones, deliverables, and implementation strategies, are established accurately. Coordinate development of strategic planning and resource utilization. Allocate resources to meet development schedules. Provide project reviews in accordance with the Agency's established performance standards. Ensure that all plans reflect the scope of services, existing field conditions, appropriate design standards, and sound engineering judgment.:Program Management: Coordinate programs and plans for the division/department; interpret laws, regulations and guidelines within area of assignment; review program plans for completeness, economic and technical feasibility.:Design and Research: Develop and assist programs, research development and technology plans (road maps), to improve product quality. Review research proposals for their accuracy, effectiveness, and potential for implementation.:Inspection: Organize, conduct, and review engineering investigations, field observations, which have a defined scope.:Technical and Data Analysis: Analyze engineering data to develop technical guidelines, technology initiatives, training course materials and other technical documents.:Subject Matter Expert: Provide technical guidance on pavement systems, bridge design, roadway design, construction, and related areas.
